DM Contemporary is pleased to
present the work of artists Tamiko
Kawata, Eung Ho Park,
and Sally Shore in an exhibition entitled: “Extraordinary”.
These three artists use everyday
objects as their primary medium. Safety pins are connected
by Kawata to make dazzling
geometric configurations; bottle caps or spoons are grouped
by Park to yield compelling
formations; and ribbons are woven together by Shore to achieve
op-art-like spatial complexity.
While the objects remain intact and recognizable in the resulting
artworks, the artists manage
to challenge and change our perception of them. Through artistic
ingenuity the ordinary is
transformed – becoming extraordinary.
Coming from backgrounds
as diverse as Japan, South Korea, and the USA, all three artists
currently live and work in New York. Their work has been extensively
exhibited in galleries,
museums, and universities - nationally and internationally.
While Kawata and Park may be
better known for their large scale installations, this exhibit
will focus on their medium and
smaller scale works.
There will be a private reception on Sunday, April 17th, after
which the exhibition will be
open to the public by appointment starting April 18th. An
artist talk will take place on
Thursday, April 28th. For directions and further information
